Penang Ferry named Pulau Kapas

Besides passing through the Penang Bridge, visitors can get to the island by its Ferry service. The Penang Ferry Service is nearing 90 years of service.

It still plies the Raja Tun Uda Wharf on the island and the Sultan Abdul Halim Wharf. While the Penang Bridge has helped reduced traffic congestion in Penang, the ferry service still plays an important role for people to commute to their destinations.

Georgetown Inscribed As Unesco Heritage Site

7th July 2009 is a memorable day for Penang as one of the main cities, George Town was accorded World Heritage Site status by Unesco, or the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisations. Besides George Town, Melaka also represent Malaysia as Unesco Heritage Site. As Malaysians, We are very proud of it, don't we?

Besides George Town and Melaka, there are seven more new cultural sites added to Unesco's World Heritage List, they are:
    1 ) Kuk Early Agricultural Site (Papua New Guinea)
    2 ) Stari Grad Plain (Croatia)
    3 ) Fortifications of Vauban (France)
    4 ) Berlin Modernism Housing Estates (Germany)
    5 ) Mantua and Sabbioneta (Italy)
    6 ) San Marino Historic Centre and Mount Titano (San Marino)
    7 ) The Wooden Churches of the Slovak part of Carpathian Mountain Area (Slovakia)

The core areas that made up of historical sites in Georgetown include the Lebuh Acheh historical enclave and sites such as the Lebuh Acheh Malay Mosque, Jalan Mesjid Kapitan Kling Mosque, the Goddess of Mercy Temple, Sri Mariamman Temple, Khoo Kongsi, St George Church, Assumption Church, St Xavier Institution, Convent Light Street, Little India, the museum and court building, the commercial area of Beach Street, Fort Cornwallis, Esplanade, City Hall, the clan jetties and the port areas.
